It's a plane, it's a bird, it's my Greek Celebration Bread

I was very excited to make this bread because they're seemed to be a lot of "wiggle room" for individuality. However due to the course of our month, my baking unfortunately got pushed to the end. But I finally did have an hour of children at school and no classroom volunteering, classroom Halloween parties, doctor appointments or room mom duties to make my bread. It was my only hour this whole week and I kept focusing all week - Friday at 2...Friday at 2. After making my bread with children last week, I really wanted to savor the moment by myself.

After reading JC's post last formula, I was intrigued by Lady Antebellum. I never have liked country, and I'm reporting that I downloaded my first official song in the country category. (my niece will Lauren will never believe it) I love music and I often categorize certain music to specific seasons or times of life. It files along with the memory for me. And I'm not afraid to dance around my kitchen a little bit. So I decided to capture my short time of baking/kneading Artos with a few songs that I'll share. I started with Lady Antebellum - Need you now and then added Forever by Chris Brown, Lose My Soul by Toby Mac and ended with Come on Get Higher by Matt Nathanson. What is your bread making mix?

But back to the bread....so I'm not a fruit fan either but was trying to think of good alternatives. I consulted Rebekah on using candy corn (the best invention in the entire world) however she didn't think they would bake well and although I was disappointed, I agreed with my wise friend. So since I was out of allspice, I decided to use Pumpkin Pie Spice instead. I used double for what they called for in allspice and also increased the cinnamon. And then I decided to get a little fancy and make the formation of the Christopsomos. It was fun to make but I know I need a little more practice. I was also rushed as the family was gearing to carve pumpkins as I was on this last critical step. The house smelled amazing as it baked. So here is my Artos in the form of Christopsomos.

Now you can see it's quite odd looking - hence my title. My husband had a remark but we'll keep that to ourselves since my Mother In Law is one of the Half-Baked Beauties. ;0) But regardless how it looked - it was DELICIOUS! And husband and I agreed that it topped Anadama....easily. But then again, neither of us are molasses fans. So if you're going to attempt the Artos again - give the ole Pumpkin Pie spice a try!

  1. I didn't try the greek bread, but Andrew has requested that I make the anadama our new every day bread. He likes it better than plain ol' whole wheat. And we all love it toasted with cheese. Can't wait to make bagels!

  2. Gave up on making the cross. I really, really wanted to, but it was the cross or sleep. LOL I want pictures of you singing and dancing next time.

  3. LOVE Lady Antebellum! My sister got me turned on to her. Nice on the bread design. Way to be creative. I think it looks like a whale hugging a big rock. And, Jimi, get your mind out of the gutter!! (Pretty funny, though).

  4. So glad to hear you have turned a corner on country music. I loved your play list, it's very similar to mine! If you ever need some more country suggestions, I have a few.... currently obsessed with Luke Bryan's "Do I" and all of Darius Rucker's country stuff. Oh yea, and Need You Now is seriously amazing... I may or may not listen to it on repeat rather often.. :) Your bread looks great!
